My Approach to Psychotherapy

Individual and family psychotherapy is most effective when the goals and strategies for change are identified by the individual or family and address the needs of each member. I approach psychotherapy with a humanistic attitude and strength based perspective, through a trauma informed lens with cultural sensitivity, and anti-oppressive social justice focus, drawn on principles of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), CPS (Collaborative Problem Solving), Solution Focused Therapy, Family Systems theories, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and MI (Motivational Interviewing).  I believe that by gaining a sense of empowerment, people can achieve goals through a collaborative therapy process and create improvement in their lives. My role is to support you as you develop new skills, repair and build relationships, all while developing lifelong skills in managing difficult and stressful life events or challenges. My approach to therapy, grounded in evidence-based practices, will be shaped based on your unique strengths and needs.

Areas of Practice

adolescents & families

I work to cultivate an environment of empowerment for adolescents. A space for their voice to be heard and their ideas to be encouraged. Emotions, feelings, peer dynamics, school, and family dynamics can be common stressors during this particular stage of development, self exploration, image building, and biological changes. I am here to support youth throughout this process. I have a passion for supporting adolescents on their journey and strive to be a safer place for them to explore their experiences, identify how they would like things to be different, and the role they play in actively creating that change.

I have a strong therapeutic orientation from the Family Systems perspective. When working with families, we focus on the shared family goals (what we would like to be different). I am here to facilitate more effective communication within families. I strive to support the cultivation of an environment within session that leads a different experience between family members, rather than re-experiencing events that occur in the home. I look forward to supporting your family through this journey.

Adult ADHD

I believe that building opportunities to experience self efficacy can be very powerful in helping to support creating change and building routine. ADHD (previously referred to as ADD) focused therapy services can often include problem solving factors impacting distractibility, creating an organization system that works best for the individual, and formulating specific next steps to complete. We will work together to address any co-occuring symptoms (i.e. depression, anxiety, etc.) and create a plan of treatment that centers your individual goals.

Systemic Oppression

Systemic oppression is the “intentional disadvantaging of groups of people based on their identity while advantaging members of the dominant group (race, gender, sexuality, language, ability, etc.).Learn More

I believe that systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma are just two of the socio-cultural factors that impact our ability to engage with our surroundings, experience safety, and feel empowered to create change. These are important factors not to be ignore, but instead to be explored. I’d like to support you through this process.

Autism

I have a foundation built on the understanding that each of us is our own unique individual who has needs specific to ourself. Through ABA training, continued education (training  and readings from Autistics), and work providing services in homes with families, I gained a tremendous amount of experience to further support my education and understanding of meeting people where they are at and respecting each individual’s autonomy. I am a patient and caring practitioner who uses a direct approach of communicating and encouraging individual ideas and goal development.

Supervision of Associates

Starting out in the field can be a stressful experience. Having competent guidance and support are important throughout the professional development process. I’m eager to join with interns on their journey to building their own therapy style, specialties, and navigating the system. I am available for individual supervision currently.

Consultation

I believe that providers need access to a safer and supportive environment to experience growth and confidence. I am available for one time or on going consultations. Potential topics include: adolescents, families, systemic oppression, adult ADHD, and Autistics.
